DS-7608NI-E2/8P replacement: Hikvision PoE NVRs
Which Hikvision NVRs replace the DS-7608NI-E2/8P, DS-7616NI-E2/16P and DS-7604NI-E1/4P, and what changes on the swap.

The Hikvision DS-7608NI-E2/8P is an older 8-channel PoE network video recorder, part of the E series that also includes the 16-channel DS-7616NI-E2/16P and the 4-channel DS-7604NI-E1/4P. In our range the DS-7608NXI-K1/8P replaces the 8-channel model, the DS-7616NXI-K2/16P(E) replaces the 16-channel model and the DS-7604NXI-K1/4P replaces the 4-channel model. Your IP cameras stay as they are: you add them again on the new recorder, fit a hard drive and add the recorder to the Hik-Connect app.
What the old E series covers
The model names show the family: E series, with 4, 8 and 16 channels and PoE in the name (the P). Check your own recorder's label for its exact model and the size of the drive fitted, then use the sections below to pick the match.
DS-7608NI-E2/8P: the 8-channel replacement
Hikvision DS-7608NXI-K1/8P
This 8-channel AcuSense NVR has 8 PoE ports and 80 Mbps of incoming bandwidth, enough for an eight-camera system. It records cameras up to 12MP, outputs 4K over HDMI and uses human and vehicle detection from AcuSense cameras. It has one SATA bay for a drive up to 10TB, so choose it if one drive is enough for your footage. If you ran two drives, see our DS-7608NI-I2/8P replacement guide for a recorder with a second bay.
DS-7616NI-E2/16P: the 16-channel replacement
Hikvision DS-7616NXI-K2/16P(E)
This 16-channel NVR has 16 integrated PoE ports, 160 Mbps of incoming and outgoing bandwidth and recording resolutions up to 16MP. It has two SATA bays, each taking a drive up to 16TB, so a system that used two drives can keep that layout. It also adds AcuSense human and vehicle classification. It has independent HDMI and VGA outputs, with HDMI up to 3840 x 2160 at 30Hz.
DS-7604NI-E1/4P: the 4-channel replacement
Hikvision DS-7604NXI-K1/4P
This compact recorder has 4 PoE ports, 40 Mbps of incoming bandwidth and supports cameras up to 12MP. It has a single SATA bay for a drive up to 10TB and HDMI output up to 4K. It suits a small four-camera house or shop system. For a longer look at a 4-channel swap, read our DS-7604NI-K1/4P replacement guide.
What to check before you order
Three checks cover most swaps. First, the channel count: choose a recorder with at least as many channels as cameras you run today. Second, camera type and resolution: the cameras must be IP cameras, and their resolution must be within what the recorder records. The new models support ONVIF profiles S and G, so Hikvision cameras and most ONVIF cameras can be added. Third, the PoE power your cameras draw: a camera that needs more than a PoE port gives needs its own power supply or a PoE switch.
What changes when you swap
- Hard drive: a drive moved from the old recorder has to be initialised in the new one, which erases the old footage. Fit a new surveillance-rated drive if you want to keep the old one as an archive.
- Cameras: plug them into the PoE ports and add them on the new recorder; they appear once their passwords are entered.
- Hik-Connect: add the new recorder with its own QR code or serial number.
- Settings: recording schedules, motion detection and user passwords are set again.
