Choose a CCTV kit for the job
Answer four plain questions and the list shortens to kits that suit the premises. A kit here means a recorder plus the cameras matched to it, with compatibility checked before listing. The hard drive is included in nearly all kits, and the card of any kit without one states the fact. Those ready to send appear at the top; every other kit remains on sale to order, and its supply is arranged by our team.
Pricing a job? Start with four questions
The questions use plain English, and nothing needs looking up. The count of matching kits updates after each answer.
What type of premises is it?
Your answer only sets the number of cameras the shortlist starts from, which can be widened afterwards.
4 further answers match none of the kits we list and have been left out. The kit builder can still price it.
Or review the full range
Every card states the premises the kit suits, its camera count and approximately how long it retains footage before the oldest is overwritten. Each component is a standard product, also sold on its own.
Refine the list
Existing cableAny
Network kits need one cable to each camera. Coax kits reuse the cable from an earlier installation.
Retention periodAny
A larger drive keeps more days of footage before the oldest is overwritten.
4-camera systems for a house
Four cameras suit most houses, covering the front, rear, side and driveway. Each camera connects to a 4-channel PoE NVR over its own network cable. For storage, a 1–2TB surveillance drive keeps around a month of motion-triggered recording.
8-camera systems for larger premises
Eight cameras are the usual specification for a larger house or a small commercial unit: entrances, tills, the yard and stock areas. Before ordering, compare the recorder’s PoE budget with the total draw of the cameras, because eight IR cameras working at full power can exceed what a minimal 8-port supply provides.
PoE CCTV systems
Power over Ethernet is the standard choice for a new installation. Each camera is served by a single Cat5e or Cat6 run that delivers both video and power, the cable ends in standard RJ45 connectors, and a camera added later needs only a patch lead rather than an electrician.
Hikvision recorder and camera kits
A Hikvision recorder and Hikvision cameras work as one system under a single app, with AcuSense filtering for people and vehicles and smart search in playback. Specify turret or bullet cameras from the NVR’s own series for the best pairing.
