DS-7604NI-K1/4P replacement: current 4-channel PoE NVR
What replaces the Hikvision DS-7604NI-K1/4P, whether your IP cameras keep working, and what changes on the swap.

The current Hikvision recorder that replaces the DS-7604NI-K1/4P is the DS-7604NXI-K1/4P: the same 4 channels, 4 built-in PoE ports and one SATA bay. Your IP cameras on the PoE ports should carry over, because the new recorder is also an ONVIF-compatible network recorder with the same 40 Mbps incoming bandwidth. You will need a hard drive set up in the new recorder, and the recorder added again in the Hik-Connect app.
What the old recorder offered
According to the Hikvision specifications for the DS-7604NI-K1/4P, as published by AAC Group, the DS-7604NI-K1/4P records 4 IP cameras at up to 8MP, with 40 Mbps incoming bandwidth. It has 4 independent PoE ports, one 10/100 Mbps network port, one SATA interface and HDMI and VGA outputs. Match these figures against your cameras when you choose a replacement.
Two recorders that fit
Hikvision DS-7604NXI-K1/4P: the like-for-like swap
This is a 4-channel AcuSense NVR with 4 PoE ports, and it accepts up to 4 IP cameras. It decodes 1 channel at 12MP, 2 at 8MP, 5 at 4MP or 10 at 1080p, with up to 40 Mbps incoming bandwidth and H.265+, H.265, H.264+ and H.264 video. It has one SATA bay for a drive up to 10TB, and HDMI output up to 4K. Choose it if you have up to four IP cameras and want to change as little as possible.
Hikvision DS-7608NXI-K1/8P: when you want room for more cameras
This 8-channel AcuSense NVR has 8 PoE ports (IEEE 802.3af/at, up to 75 W in total) and 80 Mbps incoming bandwidth. It also has one SATA bay up to 10TB. Choose it if you plan to add cameras later: it takes your four existing cameras and leaves four free ports.
Will my existing cameras keep working?
IP cameras connected to the PoE ports, or on your network, should keep working. Both recorders are ONVIF-compatible (the 8-channel model supports profiles S and G), so Hikvision cameras and most other ONVIF cameras can be added. Check two limits against your cameras. First, the recorder can only record at resolutions it supports: the like-for-like model decodes one channel at 12MP, but only two at 8MP. Second, the total bitrate of all cameras must stay within the incoming bandwidth, 40 Mbps on the 4-channel model. Cameras that need more power than a PoE port gives, or that are not on PoE, need their own power supply or a PoE switch.
What changes when you swap
- Hard drive: a drive from the old recorder has to be initialised in the new one, which erases the old footage. The drive is bought separately: use a surveillance-rated drive, up to 10TB.
- Hik-Connect: add the new recorder to the app with its own QR code or serial number, then check the cameras appear.
- Settings: recording schedules, motion detection and user passwords are set again on the new recorder.
