DS-7608NI-Q1/8P and DS-7616NI-Q2/16P replacement
Which Hikvision NVRs replace the DS-7608NI-Q1/8P and DS-7616NI-Q2/16P, and what you need to check and what changes on the swap.

The Hikvision DS-7608NI-Q1/8P and DS-7616NI-Q2/16P are older Q series PoE network video recorders, with 8 and 16 channels. In our range the DS-7608NXI-K1/8P or the DS-7608NI-M2/8P replaces the 8-channel model, and the DS-7616NXI-K2/16P(E) or the DS-7616NI-M2/16P replaces the 16-channel model. Your IP cameras stay as they are: you add them again on the new recorder, fit a hard drive and add the recorder to the Hik-Connect app.
What the Q series model names tell you
In both names the "NI" means a network video recorder for IP cameras, the number after "76" is the channel count (08 or 16) and the "P" means the recorder powers the cameras through built-in PoE ports. Check the label on your own recorder for the exact model, and note how many cameras are connected and which hard drive is fitted, then use the sections below to pick the match.
DS-7608NI-Q1/8P: the 8-channel replacements
Hikvision DS-7608NXI-K1/8P
This 8-channel AcuSense NVR has 8 PoE ports and 80 Mbps of incoming bandwidth, enough for an eight-camera system. It records cameras up to 12MP and outputs 4K over HDMI. It has one SATA bay for a drive up to 10TB and uses human and vehicle detection from AcuSense cameras.
Hikvision DS-7608NI-M2/8P
This 8-channel NVR has 8 PoE ports and takes IP cameras up to 32MP, with up to 128 Mbps incoming bandwidth. It has two SATA bays, each taking a drive up to 16TB, and independent HDMI and VGA outputs, with HDMI up to 8K. Choose it if you want a second drive or plan to move to higher-resolution cameras later.
DS-7616NI-Q2/16P: the 16-channel replacements
Hikvision DS-7616NXI-K2/16P(E)
This 16-channel NVR has 16 integrated PoE ports, 160 Mbps of incoming and outgoing bandwidth and recording resolutions up to 16MP. It has two SATA bays, each taking a drive up to 16TB, and independent HDMI and VGA outputs, with HDMI up to 3840 x 2160 at 30Hz. It adds AcuSense human and vehicle classification when used with compatible cameras.
Hikvision DS-7616NI-M2/16P
This 16-channel NVR has 16 PoE ports and up to 256 Mbps of incoming bandwidth, which suits systems with many high-resolution streams. It decodes up to 16 channels at 4MP and has dual SATA interfaces for local storage. It also supports up to eight IP speakers.
What to check before you order
Three checks cover most swaps. First, the channel count: choose a recorder with at least as many channels as cameras you run today, and use the 16-channel models if you plan to add cameras to an 8-camera system. Second, camera type and resolution: the cameras must be IP cameras, and their resolution must be within what the recorder records; the K1/8P records cameras up to 12MP and the M2/8P takes cameras up to 32MP. Third, the hard drive and PoE power: confirm the drive size you want fits the bay limits above, and remember that a camera needing more power than a PoE port gives needs its own supply or a PoE switch.
What changes when you swap
- Hard drive: a drive moved from the old recorder has to be initialised in the new one, which erases the old footage. Fit a new surveillance-rated drive if you want to keep the old one as an archive.
- Cameras: plug them into the PoE ports and add them on the new recorder.
- Hik-Connect: add the new recorder with its own QR code or serial number.
- Settings: recording schedules, motion detection and user passwords are set again.
