DS-7616NI-I2/16P replacement: current 16-channel NVRs
Which recorders replace the Hikvision DS-7616NI-I2/16P, what to check on your cameras, and what changes on the swap.

The DS-7616NI-I2/16P is a 16-channel Hikvision PoE recorder with two hard drive bays. Of the 16-channel PoE recorders we stock, the DS-7616NXI-K2/16P(E) is the first one to look at, because it also has 16 PoE ports and two SATA bays. The DS-7616NI-M2/16P is the alternative if you want more incoming bandwidth. Both are network recorders for IP cameras, so cameras on the PoE ports should carry over. You will need to set up a hard drive in the new recorder and add it again in the Hik-Connect app.
What the old recorder offered
According to the product specifications published by Panacompu, the DS-7616NI-I2/16P is a 16-channel NVR with 16 PoE ports, two SATA interfaces and HDMI output up to 4K. We could not confirm its incoming bandwidth or maximum camera resolution from a source we can cite, so read those two figures from the label or datasheet for your unit and compare them with the figures below.
Two recorders that fit
Hikvision DS-7616NXI-K2/16P(E): the first match
This 16-channel AcuSense NVR has sixteen IEEE 802.3af/at PoE ports, so cameras are powered and configured through the recorder. Incoming bandwidth is 160 Mbps and recording resolutions extend up to 16MP. Decoding supports up to three 12MP, five 8MP, ten 4MP or sixteen 2MP channels with recorder-side AI processing disabled. It has two SATA bays that each take a drive up to 16TB, HDMI output up to 3840 × 2160 at 30Hz, a Gigabit network port and ONVIF Profiles S and G. Choose it for a like-for-like swap with AcuSense human and vehicle detection added.
Hikvision DS-7616NI-M2/16P: more incoming bandwidth
This 16-channel NVR has integrated PoE ports and supports H.265+, H.265, H.264+ and H.264. Incoming bandwidth is up to 256 Mbps, and it decodes 16 channels at 4MP at the same time. Dual SATA interfaces take your hard drives, and it can work with up to eight IP speakers. Choose it if your cameras add up to a high combined bitrate.
What to check before you buy
- Camera type and resolution: the recorder can only decode the resolutions it supports, and the combined bitrate of all cameras must stay within its incoming bandwidth, 160 Mbps on the K2 model and 256 Mbps on the M2 model.
- Channels: both recorders take 16 cameras. If you plan more, look at a bigger recorder.
- Hard drives: both have two bays, so a two-drive setup carries over.
- Power: cameras on the PoE ports are powered by the recorder. Cameras that were not on PoE, or that sat on a separate switch, need their own power supply or a PoE switch, and can still be added over the network.
What changes when you swap
- Hard drives: drives from the old recorder have to be initialised in the new one, which erases the old footage. Use surveillance-rated drives.
- Hik-Connect: add the new recorder to the app with its own QR code or serial number, then check the cameras appear.
- Settings: recording schedules, motion detection and user passwords are set again on the new recorder.
