DS-7608NI-K2/8P replacement: 8-channel PoE NVRs
Which recorders replace the Hikvision DS-7608NI-K2/8P, whether your IP cameras keep working, and what changes on the swap.

The DS-7608NI-K2/8P is an 8-channel Hikvision PoE recorder with two hard drive bays. The closest match in our range is the DS-7608NXI-K1/8P, which also has 8 PoE ports, but one drive bay. If you use both bays, or want room for higher-resolution cameras, choose the DS-7608NI-M2/8P. Your IP cameras stay as they are: they are added again on the new recorder, and you set up a hard drive and the Hik-Connect app.
What the old recorder offered
According to the Wasserman product page, the DS-7608NI-K2/8P takes 8 IP cameras, has 8 built-in PoE ports, two hard drive bays with up to 6 TB of storage in total, HDMI and VGA outputs, and a maximum resolution of 3840x2160. Match these figures against your cameras when you choose a replacement.
Recorders that fit
Hikvision DS-7608NXI-K1/8P: the nearest like-for-like swap
This 8-channel AcuSense NVR has 8 PoE ports and 80 Mbps incoming bandwidth, so an 8-camera system sized for the old recorder fits. It records cameras up to 12MP, outputs 4K over HDMI and takes human and vehicle detection from AcuSense cameras. It has one SATA bay for a drive up to 10TB. Choose it if one drive is enough for your footage.
Hikvision DS-7608NI-M2/8P: two bays and more headroom
This NVR keeps the two SATA bays, each taking a drive up to 16TB, and adds NAS and iSCSI network storage. It has 8 PoE ports and accepts IP cameras up to 32MP, with incoming bandwidth up to 128 Mbps and HDMI output up to 8K. Choose it if you record to two drives today, or plan to move to higher-resolution cameras.
HiLook NVR-108H-D/8P: a compact option for smaller systems
This Mini 1U recorder has 8 PoE ports and 60 Mbps of incoming and outgoing bandwidth, and it decodes up to four 1080p channels at once. HDMI and VGA can run together. It suits a smaller system of 1080p cameras; if your cameras are 4K, take one of the two Hikvision models above.
Will my existing cameras keep working?
IP cameras should keep working. The K1 supports ONVIF profiles S and G, and the M2 is compatible with Hik-Connect and ONVIF devices, so Hikvision cameras and most ONVIF cameras can be added. Check three things before you order: the camera resolution against what the recorder records and decodes, the total bitrate of all cameras against the incoming bandwidth, and the PoE power your cameras draw. A camera that needs more than a PoE port gives needs its own power supply or a PoE switch.
What changes when you swap
- Hard drive: fit a new surveillance-rated drive in the new recorder and keep the old drive as an archive, so the old footage stays untouched. The K1 has one bay, so choose the M2 if you use two drives.
- Cameras: plug them into the PoE ports and add them on the new recorder; they appear once their passwords are entered.
- Hik-Connect: add the new recorder with its own QR code or serial number.
- Settings: recording schedules, motion detection and user passwords are set again.
