DS-7216HQHI-K1 and DS-7216HQHI-K2 replacement DVRs
Which 16-channel Hikvision DVRs replace the DS-7216HQHI-K1 and DS-7216HQHI-K2, and what to check first.

The Hikvision DS-7216HQHI-K1 and DS-7216HQHI-K2 are 16-channel Hikvision DVR recorders. In our range, the Hikvision iDS-7216HQHI-M1/XT is the closest like-for-like replacement for both. If your cameras are 8MP, or you want two hard drives, choose the iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT; for a plain 1080p system the DS-7216HGHI-M1 does the job. Match the sixteen channels first, then check your cameras and your hard drive.
Which recorder replaces the K1 and the K2
Read the label on your recorder, and look at how many hard drives sit in it. If it holds one drive, any of the three recorders below will do. If you use two drives, choose the iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT, which has two bays.
Hikvision iDS-7216HQHI-M1/XT: the first choice for a K1 or K2
A 16-channel AcuSense DVR with one HDD bay, taking a drive up to 12TB. It records up to 5MP Lite and 3K Lite at 12 frames per second with H.265 Pro+ compression, accepts HDTVI, AHD, CVI, CVBS and IP inputs, and can add up to 24 IP cameras of up to 6MP each. It supports facial recognition on 4 channels or perimeter protection on 8, and suits a system with up to 5MP cameras on coax.
Hikvision iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT: for 8MP cameras or two drives
A 16-channel AcuSense DVR with two HDD bays. It records up to 8MP at 8 frames per second or 5MP at 12 frames per second, takes the same five input types, and supports up to 32 IP cameras of up to 8MP each. Choose it if you plan to upgrade the cameras later, or if the old recorder held two drives and you want to keep that.
Hikvision DS-7216HGHI-M1: for 1080p cameras
A 16-channel Turbo HD DVR with one SATA bay for a drive up to 10TB. It encodes up to 1080p Lite at 15 frames per second, takes HDTVI, AHD, CVI, CVBS and IP inputs, and adds up to 18 IP cameras of up to 5MP. It sends audio over the coax from compatible cameras. Pick it when your cameras are 1080p or lower and you do not need the analytics.
Sixteen coax cameras: what to check
- Camera type: all three recorders take HDTVI, AHD, CVI and CVBS cameras over BNC coax, so your existing cable and cameras can stay. Check the type printed on each camera.
- Resolution: a camera records at no more than the recorder allows. The DS-7216HGHI-M1 is the lowest at 1080p Lite, so do not use it with 4MP or 5MP cameras if you want their full detail.
- Channels: count your cameras. All three recorders have sixteen analogue channels.
- Hard drive: check the bay count and the maximum drive size above against what you have now.
- Power: check how each camera is powered, over the coax or from its own supply, and that the new recorder suits it. The product pages give the recorder's own power details.
What changes on the swap
- Hard drive: move the old drive across or fit a new surveillance-rated drive.
- Hik-Connect: add the new recorder to the app again and check each camera appears.
