DS-7208HUHI-K1 replacement: 8-channel Hikvision DVR
Which 8-channel DVRs replace the Hikvision DS-7208HUHI-K1 and whether your coax cameras keep working.

If you are replacing a Hikvision DS-7208HUHI-K1, the 8-channel recorders we stock to replace it are the Hikvision iDS-7208HUHI-M1/E and iDS-7208HUHI-M1/XT. Both are 8MP AcuSense DVRs that take HDTVI, AHD, CVI and CVBS cameras, so coax cameras should carry over. You will also need a hard drive for the new recorder and to add it to the Hik-Connect app.
What to look for in a replacement
Match three things to the old recorder: the number of camera channels, the type of camera signal, and the highest resolution of your cameras. The DS-7208HUHI-K1 is an eight-channel model, so choose a recorder with at least eight channels. If you are not sure what your cameras are, the type and resolution are usually printed on the camera body or its box.
Two 8-channel recorders that fit
Hikvision iDS-7208HUHI-M1/E
The M1/E is the plainer of the two: eight BNC inputs, one HDD bay and H.265 Pro+ compression. Each channel can record 8MP at 8 frames per second, or 5MP at 12 frames per second, and up to 16 network cameras can be added. Pick it to replace an eight-camera coax system as it is, with room to move to 8MP cameras one at a time.
Hikvision iDS-7208HUHI-M1/XT
This is also an 8-channel, one-HDD-bay AcuSense DVR with the same 8MP at 8 frames per second and 5MP at 12 frames per second encoding. It supports facial recognition on 4 channels or perimeter protection on all 8, up to 16 IP camera inputs of up to 8MP each, and HDTVI two-way audio. Choose it if you want those analytics or two-way audio with compatible cameras.
Need more than eight cameras?
For 16 cameras, look at the Hikvision iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT, a 16-channel model with two HDD bays and up to 32 IP camera inputs.
Will my existing analogue cameras keep working?
Both eight-channel recorders accept HDTVI, AHD, CVI and CVBS cameras over BNC coax, which covers the usual analogue cameras. A camera can only record at a resolution the recorder supports, so check the resolution of each camera against the recorder's 8MP and 5MP limits above. IP cameras connect over the network instead.
What changes when you swap
- Hard drive: add a surveillance-rated drive, or move the old one across. The M1/E takes a drive up to 10TB and the M1/XT up to 12TB.
- Hik-Connect: add the new recorder to the app again and check the cameras appear.
