DS-7204HUHI-K1 replacement: 4-channel Hikvision DVR
Which 4-channel DVR replaces the Hikvision DS-7204HUHI-K1, and whether your coax cameras keep working.

If your Hikvision DS-7204HUHI-K1 has failed or you have outgrown it, the 4-channel recorder we stock to replace it is the Hikvision iDS-7204HUHI-M1/XT. It is a 4-channel 8MP AcuSense DVR that takes HDTVI, AHD, CVI and CVBS cameras, so the coax in a small home or shop system can stay where it is. If you plan to add cameras, the 8-channel iDS-7208HUHI-M1/E gives you room to grow. Either way you need a hard drive and a fresh Hik-Connect set-up.
What the DS-7204HUHI-K1 is
The DS-7204HUHI-K1 belongs to Hikvision's DS-7200HUHI-K1 Turbo HD DVR series. Our product data for the PoC version of the series (the DS-7204HUHI-K1/P) describes a 4-channel recorder with one SATA hard drive bay, H.265 Pro+ compression, recording up to 5MP at 12 frames per second, and inputs for HDTVI, AHD, CVI, CVBS and IP cameras, with up to 8 network cameras. Check the label on your own recorder for its exact model, because the /P version is the power-over-coax one (only the DS-7204HUHI-K1/P is described as PoC in our product data).
Replacement recorders
Hikvision iDS-7204HUHI-M1/XT
This is the closest like-for-like swap: 4 channels, one HDD bay and five-signal input (HDTVI, AHD, CVI, CVBS and IP). It records up to 8MP at 8 frames per second or 5MP at 12 frames per second, and accepts up to 8 IP cameras of up to 8MP each. It adds AcuSense human and vehicle detection, which cuts false alerts from shadows and animals, and takes one drive of up to 12TB. Choose it if your cameras are 4 to 8MP, or you want better alerts.
Hikvision iDS-7204HQHI-M1/XT
A 4-channel AcuSense DVR for 5MP Lite and 3K Lite recording at 12 frames per second, with up to 6 network cameras and one drive of up to 10TB. It suits an older system with 2MP to 5MP cameras where you do not need 8MP.
Hikvision DS-7204HUHI-K1/P
The power-over-coax version of the same series, for cameras that are fed power and video through one cable. Only choose it if your cameras are PoC types.
Thinking of eight cameras?
Four cameras is a common limit for a small home. If you may add a back-garden or side-access camera later, the Hikvision iDS-7208HUHI-M1/E has eight channels and one HDD bay, so you do not need to replace the recorder a second time.
Will my existing analogue cameras keep working?
The 4-channel recorders above accept HDTVI, AHD, CVI and CVBS cameras over BNC coax, so most analogue cameras connect to them. A camera records at the best resolution that both it and the recorder support, so a 2MP camera stays at 2MP on an 8MP recorder. If you are unsure of a camera's type, it is usually printed on the camera body.
What changes when you swap
- Hard drive: fit a surveillance-rated drive, or move the old one across. A moved drive may need formatting by the new recorder, which clears the old footage, so export anything you need first.
- Cables: keep the existing coax and power supplies. Plug each camera into the same numbered input.
- Hik-Connect: add the new recorder to the app and check every camera appears.
