DS-7208HQHI-K1 replacement: 8-channel Hikvision DVR
What replaces the Hikvision DS-7208HQHI-K1 and whether your coax cameras keep working.
If you are replacing a Hikvision DS-7208HQHI-K1, the 8-channel recorder we stock to replace it is the Hikvision iDS-7208HQHI-M1/XT. It supports HDTVI, AHD, CVI and CVBS cameras, so coax cameras should carry over. You will also need a hard drive for the new recorder and to add it to the Hik-Connect app.
What to look for in a replacement
Match three things to the old recorder: the number of camera channels, the type of camera signal, and the highest resolution of your cameras. Count the cameras on your old recorder and pick a recorder with at least that many channels; both recorders below have eight. If you are not sure what your cameras are, the type and resolution are usually printed on the camera body or its box.

This is an 8-channel AcuSense hybrid DVR that records up to 5MP Lite and 3K Lite at 12 frames per second with H.265 Pro+ compression. It supports HDTVI, AHD, CVI and CVBS cameras, and up to 12 IP cameras can be connected in total over the network. It has one SATA bay for a drive up to 10TB, HDMI and VGA outputs, and remote viewing through Hik-Connect. Choose it if your cameras are 1080p to 5MP and you want to change as little as possible.
Hikvision iDS-7208HUHI-M1/E: when you plan to upgrade the cameras
This 8-channel AcuSense DVR records up to 8MP at 8 frames per second and 5MP at 12 frames per second, and connects up to 16 network cameras. It also has one SATA bay up to 10TB, with HDMI output up to 4K. Choose it if you want to swap some cameras for 8MP models later without buying another recorder.
Will my existing cameras keep working?
Both recorders support HDTVI, AHD, CVI and CVBS cameras, which covers the usual coax cameras. IP cameras connect over the network instead. Check the resolution of your cameras against the recorder: a camera can only record at a resolution the recorder supports. Check that each camera outputs one of those four signal types.
What changes when you swap
- Hard drive: add a surveillance-rated drive, up to 10TB.
- Hik-Connect: add the new recorder to the app again and check the cameras appear.
